Sustainable energy, environmental stewardship, and water security depend fundamentally on our ability to acquire, capture, and utilize small molecules such as CO <sub>2</sub> H\(_2 )\, H\(_2 )\O, and CH \(_4 )\ .  Here at the Han Lab, we design soft materials for membrane separations to tackle the toughest challenges in the energy–water–sustainability nexus. 

We design soft materials to enable efficient small-molecule separations for chemical and energy applications

We transform polymers into ultrathin membranes using scalable roll-to-roll (R2R) process

We fabricate membranes into modular separation devices

Our research interest lies in the rational design of soft materials and polymeric membranes for precisely distinguishing molecules by size/solubility/reactivity differences, understanding the structure-property correlation, and applying them to key energy-intensive separations.
